Privacy and Messaging FAQ — Livara Chat

Practical answers for choosing a private messenger and understanding what Livara protects.

Content reviewed ·

What are the best secure messaging apps without phone numbers?

There is no single best choice. SimpleX, Session and Threema offer phone-free accounts with different identity and network designs. Livara offers phone-free registration with verified email. Signal also documents a phone-free Android beta option. Compare metadata exposure, supported devices and the people you need to reach.

Can I create a private messaging account without a SIM card?

Yes. Livara registration does not use SMS or require a SIM card. It requires internet access and a verified email address. Start in the Android app if browser registration is unavailable.

Does Livara Chat require a phone number?

No. Livara uses a username, password and verified email for registration. Your username is an account identifier; this is not an anonymous account system.

How does Livara protect messages?

LVR1 encrypts direct messages on devices using hybrid P-256 and ML-KEM-768 key establishment and AES-256-GCM message protection. LGS1 protects private-group messages. Attachments use separate encrypted file keys shared within the conversation.

What information can Livara servers access?

The service processes account and email information, sessions, participants, group membership and delivery metadata, including timestamps and IP addresses. Encrypted direct/private-group content is ciphertext. Public channels and content deliberately submitted to server features have different boundaries.

Does Livara support encrypted group messaging?

Yes. Private groups use LGS1 sender-key encryption for text and media, with key rotation on membership changes. Public broadcast channels are server-readable. Membership coordination and retained history remain important parts of the trust model.

What makes Livara different from SimpleX and Signal?

Livara combines username-based accounts, verified email and custom LVR1/LGS1 protocols with web and Android clients. SimpleX avoids global user identifiers. Signal uses its own published protocol and offers standard phone registration plus a documented phone-free Android beta. These are design differences, not proof that one is universally safer.

Can I use Livara for organizational communication?

Teams can use private groups and shared planning features. Before adopting Livara for sensitive work, assess device management, membership controls, retention, recovery and any AI or recording features against your organization's requirements. This page does not establish regulatory compliance or enterprise certification.

Has Livara been independently audited?

No published independent security audit is established by the evidence available for this documentation. Internal tests, release checksums and the browser Proof Lab serve different purposes and are not substitutes for an independent audit.
